I'll Be Getting A New Laptop In The Next Few Months And I Need Some Opinions On One I Found

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editor ... top-tvdeal

It's Going To Be For Browsing The Internet, Schoolwork And Some Small Programs (NOT HARDCORE GAMING)
It's In My Price Range And I Think It Looks Great
Opinions?
Also I'm Taking Recommendations For Programs To Download
If You Have Some, All I Need Is A Name And Some Basic Info
Thanks ^_^

looks nice
I would suggest downgrading to xp though my sister got a vista and none of her programs worked and downloading the "vista" patches didn't do anything. Be wary of dell customer service if you are like me and like to download stuff from the internet and then get viruses it'll take you about an hour to start talking to a live person then about four hours to figure out and solve the problem but i didn't install any security software other than mcafee which came with it and does NOTHING so i guess that's my fault.
other than that looks awesome!

Seems like a decent price. I disagree with scorpio803's Vista suggestion though. Likelyhood is that if you're not doing anything incredibly special you won't have a lot of problems. If you were doing software development or hardcore gaming however, I would suggest you downgrade.

If I were you, I wouldn't look at anything bigger than 15.4" (everything with a bigger screen is heavy, have ridiculously short battery life and just too big). Unless you are going to use it as desktop replacement and don't need mobility.

personally i would say look at lenovo. they have the thinkpad now (i have owned 2 and my dad 4...we get them cheap...he works for IBM) and they are indistructible. the X series is something like 1000 USD and they are tiny laptops if you want a small one. they have 15.4 inch laptops for like 500-600 USD if you look on there site.

The only problem that I have with Lenovo is that they manufacture in China. That may not be as huge a deal to some as others, but it's worth knowing just in case.

May I ask why that affects your purchase decision? You've got me curious. :)

It looks like an alright laptop. I've heard mixed things about Dell, but they're at least better than HP.

i agree HP is bad with laptops. There good till your power cord dies...then all you get are crap ones that do not last. Dell i have had one...screen was crap...and it was slow...but it was a pentium 3 so im not to mad about the speed. i still have it but i hate using it. my friend has a brand new dell...it BSOD'd 1st bootup...my other friend with a dell...the screen broke off the hinge... me and my dad's lenovos...they have NEVER had problems

Dell better than HP?

I do HellDesk duty, and when a user calls with a laptop-related problem it's usually a Dell that's involved.
(Of course, as we don't buy models meant for home use, we may be getting a different experience... )

As for screen-size...
15.4" is definitely the largest I would get.

Ever seen how easily a 17" cracks?
One thing all manufacturers skimp on in order to keep the weight down is the screen support.

And weight IS important.
(You'll agree after carrying it around for a day... )

My private laptop is a Apple iBook 12" G4/1.3GHz which weighs about 2Kg.
Beautiful and good computer.

When travelling on behalf of the job, I use a HP nc2400 12" laptop weighing 1.2Kg(about 2.5lbs)
This model has been replaced by the nc2510p now.
(Yes, the price is correct... )

And no, you won't see them in most online stores as it's meant for 'business users', not home users and gamers.

If you're going to use it for schoolwork, have you considered the HP 2133 Mini-note?
It's their idea of an 'Eee-killer', and a pretty decent machine.
(Acer, MSI and 'a few others' also have machines in this size)
It's available both with Linux and Vista...

mac may be out of his price range

Dell may be the most in call in's (does not surprise me since i do computer repair for family and friends and dell is the worst) but my HP laptop experience (2 different laptops) (zv6000 and dvsomething) have been bad. the ZV never lasts for more then 3 months before the power cable dies AGIAN (since there replacements i dont get to angry or a hinge breaks (thats annoying) the DV has had OS problems but not always :P
