RIGHT... my first attempt at making an rp. I'm sorry for bestowing this atrocity upon humanity, but, I was bored and the rp I was in earlier died. Still working the kinks out of the idea for it... think of this as: Wort's Atrocity of an Rp: Beta v0.5!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
It is the year 2238, tens years after the end of the Colonial War. Humanity, though still searching, has found very few species of sapient beings. They are dominant, controlling, and everywhere. The few species found have been either crushed or absorbed into Earth's recovering empire. The Colonial War, the largest civil war in human history, and the first spanning beyond the Sol system, has left colonies burnt, abandoned, or in a state of poverty and recovery. Though the war slowed humanity's expansion, the fighting has brought military technology, strength, and presence to a whole new level. Massive fleets of interstellar battleships, energy weaponry, and zero-gravity warfare are now part of humanity's history, and what were once dreams have become reality.

Deep in space, at the furthest reaches of human presence, the war-torn and emptied world of Hope, once humanity's greatest find and the jewel of the colonial expansion, is being re-inhabited. A single colony ship, the Grand Horizon, has landed on the planet, bringing with it a steam of weary refugees and eager colonists. After four months of steady progress and re-construction, contact was lost with the colony. The Galactic Republic of Earth, fearing rebellion or disaster, has dispatched a single warship to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, a second colony ship prepares to land on Hope, paying no heed to the loss of communication, or the warnings of the Federation. Now, the two vessels steadily cruise towards the dark, voiceless world.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, you are either a colonist (on the ship, not the planet), crew member of either the colony ship or the warship (let's call it , the RSS Liberator) or a marine.

The majority of the Rp will take place planet-side, but the very beginning will not. This is to allow characters to become developed and give a greater understanding of the other characters and the setting.

Here are some rules/guidelines:
1. You are not a(n)
-experimental weapon
-engineered superhuman (engineered non-supers are acceptable)
-high ranking officer (unless you have permission)
-super advanced android or killing machine (the military runs that stuff, and as GM, I run the military... kinda)
-magical god/being
-magical in ANY WAY

2. If you are an alien etc. (non-human)
-you still are'nt magical
-provide a good physical description of the species

3. Tech guidelines
-energy shields are for ships, not your armor
-you don't have miracle cures
-no, for the last time, you are not a super robot
-you can have plasma charged or explosive projectiles, but you still have bullets (no pure energy, no beams etc.)
-don't use present day equiment

YAY FOR TOO MANY RULES!

Couple questions before I post (Wich will be a few hours from now, after school)

How likely would it be to find an independant trader or mercenary by now?

eh screw it:

Name: Rattrap Gonzales
Race: Jahorian

Jahorians are naturally warlike and prone to short tempers. Averaging 6 to 9 standard feet, the usually tower over human counterparts. Their fur grows to about 1 to 2 inches on average, unusual for their living environment- a planet that is almost 75% desert . The social structure is almost identical to humans. Mating is a complicated ritual performed every year. Jahorians routinely bond with 2 members of the opposite gender for life. This creates complicated family trees that can take geneticists years to decipher. For most young Jahorians, every adult is assumed to be related, and as such the title ‘Uncle' or ‘Aunt' is given freely. The Jahorian religion of choice is followed by comparatively few members. The closest human religion it follows is that practised by the ancient Aztecs and Mayans. Aside from the live sacrifices, it is virtually identical. Every other year, the five moons become eclipsed and the already dim light they give is nearly halved. These ‘Shadow Times'- an evil period for the religious, can last from a few nights to up to several months (The record is 14months- three months shy of a full year). Young born during this time have slightly longer fur (3-4 inches) a trait that could be taken from the lower temperature. They also exhibit generally more aggressive personalities. Since ancient times it is thought by the religious leaders that this is due to demons who inhabit the children at birth. Young are usually born with pure white fur which darkens to various shades of brown or grey. Occasionally it darkens to black or changes colour to gold tones. With the exception of a few polar clans this trait exists around the planet. Extreme trauma can also lead to darker fur and strong behavioural traits can lighten or darken fur as well. Nearly helpless from birth, by a month, Jahorians can walk and by six months are playing with other children. Their tails carry a separate set of characteristics and the young cannot exert full control until four to five years of age. In history Jahoria has been racked with violent ‘Clan Wars' that devastated the population and brought forth the near desert planet characteristics of the world. Among alliances, different clans had different roles in combat. In modern times, the practise of training young to operate in a military application is still evident. Based on how much combat the clan members were expected to encounter sets the time line for a intensive training program that substitutes their education. A warrior clan would begin combat training very early while training for a healer or farming clan (growing crops to supply the warband) would not begin until much later.

Gender: male
What you are: marine/shock trooper
Occupation:
Physical description: 7' 2", 290lbs

Eyes: small pupils with dark blue iris'
Hair: black fur all over, roughly cut
Other: front teeth stick out slightly when his mounth is closed
Clothes: black leather belt, with a sheath for his knife across the back, a small gold ring on a string around his neck
Armor(if any): standard issue flak vest
Weapons: DC-45 Squad Operational Weapon (22mm plasma-sheathed ballistic ammunition), 14in throwing knife with a serrated edge, issue grenades, detpacks
Other tech: personal-sized heat shield (for orbital deployment)
Skills: explosive engineering
Personality: tends to hold himself aloof from his subordinates, takes losses lightly but will personally avenge them when possible. Prefers to work alone because he know he can trust himself to get the job done.

History/Bio: Born and raised on Jahoria, his mother was a well known and respected news anchor. Born only a few years before the end of the war he grew up listening to dire stories of the approaching conflict. It ended the year, he turned 18 and was able to enlist in the Human military. Most of his comrades were content to have a non-human among them, and the few that disliked him usually avoided him after a confrontation. Towering over all the but the tallest humans, he weighed as much as a set of powered armour. When contact with Hope Colony was lost, he initially applied to be transferred to the colony ship- Hope was only a few systems away from Jahoria and he hadn’t been home since the day he enlisted. His application was rejected on the ground he was ‘not human and could cause a threat to the stability of the colony’. Someone among the brass took notice of his skill, and transferred him to the RSS Liberator.

Accepted, forgot to mention that marines and security guards will be issued the current standard body armor before any fighting. Your weapons may be replaced, depending on whether or not your current armament is suitable, and if we can risk the use of outside tech or varying, randomly equipped troops. Sadly the real world works with, well, matching guns.

Hmmm... mercs and merchants... they are plausible, but this take place on a supposedly abandoned colony, and it would take a while before the military allowed civilian ships into the sector. If one were to be on the colony ship, which works for merchants (thusly the occupation: thing) and possible mercs (though who would they fight for on a presumed peaceful colony being repopulated).

I FORGOTS A RANK SECTION!

One suggestion: Humans may not respect your choice not to wear pants, and with military standards... well, you might need some pants!

Name:Mikota Lisharo
Race:Ctarl-Ctarl
Gender:M
What you are:Marine/Scout Sniper
Rank:1st Sergant
Physical description:Lean with a muscular tone in build. Although human looking from a ways off, looking at their eyes shows the heart of a animal, that of a warrior namely a predatory creature like that of a wolf or Jaguar. Mikota's tribal markings under his left eye and down his right arm indicate is social staus with in his ethnic ranks. The Kataro are dark skinned looking humans for the most part, some having lighter skin shades than others. Mikotas hands are always enclosed in a set of marksmen gloves(Only the Index and middle finger exposed.) He's a handsome young Kataro and never is seen without his beaded necklace or boonie hat.
Eyes:Red
Hair: Short
Other:Has all the mannarisms of a Canine in terms of tracking targets and combat. Also a good hunter(Counter-Sniper)
Clothes:Whatever the military gives him.
Armor(if any):Light "Blitz" Grade Sharpshooter chest body armor, Inside of Ghille suit is covered in thin Kevlar.(25lbs Still leaving him mobile if need be.)
Weapons:M28 Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle/Barret M207 Heavy Sniper Cannon
Other tech:(2)M83 Anti-Personel Land Mines(Claymores (2)Smoke Grenades (1)UAV Laser Designator(Spotter is in charge of the Claymores and the designator.)

Skills:Infiltration/Recon/Stalking.Lives by the code"One Shot one kill."

Personality: Outgoing and a good man, loves the military life and the adreniline he gets from being in danger. One with his rifle and One with his spotter. He's just here to fight for his people, and the others who too search for a better tomarrow.

History/Bio:Growing up with Mikota was as typical as they come for a Kataro family. The military was his life. Always training, fighting, and working to fight as a Marine someday. Upon his entry he was noted for his precise marksman skills and stealthy manuvering. It was on a scale all it's own almost. Upon his graduation he graduated in the top 15 of his Scout/Recon class, earning high marks in every area except control. His tempor got the best of him, and as rumors go he exploded in the mess hall, howling and brawling. Thus earning the nickname "Headshot Pup." Even with this mess up the men of his company and of other regiments respect him as a soldier and a person.

Now on board this Warship he's had time to meet the regular and airbourne(ex.Helicopters,Transport ops. etc.) infantry and learn their jobs and roles, thus giving him a better understanding of the Marine Corps and the roles all these soldiers play.

[Also he's part of a 2 man sniper team semi-connected with the divisions of commands choosing.]

Accepted with changes:
-we have no airborne, having orbital drops and drop-ships allow the standard soldier to be easily transported.
-as a sniper, you're not in command of any other soldiers and take orders from command
-land mines seem kinda out of place when it comes to sniping
-in the future, there are no U.S. marines, its all one big republic
-you should only have one rifle (think of the added weight), and a side-arm is standard

P.S.
The last part of your profile confuses me.

Maybe I'm going overkill when it comes to rules and changes?

Nah i like a little structure so no problems.Only one thing the Sniper cannon can be bundled or dropped to him, it's to be assembled once the target engagement zone has been identified, it's use is for Armoured Vehicles(ex.Tanks, APC's, Trucks, etc.)

Not to mention a 2 man sniper team i think can handle their gear a collapsible AT rifle split between the both of them. Otherwise the M28 is their main weapon and rifle of choice.

Don't close this without me I need a day because making a futuristic character takes me a bit longer to create, then a medieval one.

Race: Human
Gender: Male
What you are: Colonist
Rank (Marines and Security only): Ex-Private
Occupation (when you aren't riding around in the colony ship, applies only for colonists): Explorer
Physical description (details please): 6’1”, 180lbs. He has a short grown beard that fills his face. He also carries a pack with him that holds his gear.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Brown
Other: 24 years old
Clothes: He wears an olive drab jacket that displays his name and former rank from his time in the service, a plain white T-shirt he wears underneath the jacket. He wears his dog tags around his neck as he has found it to be somewhat convenient. He wears a pair of tan cargo pants, which have four pockets to hold small things in addition to the regular pockets. His shoes are a pair of brown hiking boots with laces.
Armor: None
Weapons: He sports a pretty standard combat knife with the jagged, saw-like bit near the handle. Also carries a standard sidearm but he keeps it with his kit.
Other tech: A survival kit for when he’s on the planet that includes medical gear, his pistol with extra ammunition, various fire starting methods (“matches,” flint and steel.), a small ground pad, and emergency rations.
Skills: Basic military training
Personality: Mitch is a curious man but he tends to be a little overcautious about most of the things he does. He doesn’t like doing things unless he knows why he doing them and usually a short, simple answer is good enough for him.
History/Bio: During the first eighteen years of his life, Mitch lived the comfortable life of a middle-class citizen. His grades in school reflected this life. His father, however, wanted him to be much more than the common middle-classman he was becoming and enlisted him into the service when he turned eighteen. While there, Mitch focused mainly on the survival aspects of his training deeming it the most important part. When Mitch received orders, he constantly questioned them. These questions more than often ended with him being punished by doing needless exercises. By the end of his enlistment period, Mitch had controlled his curious nature, incidentally causing him to be a little overcautious, and did not reenlist. After meeting some people in a bar, Mitch joined an exploration assignment into the jungle of a far-off planet. Finding the three-year journey to be an enjoyable experience, he signed on for the colony ship’s mission to Hope.

How's this? I'm sorry about my vagueness, but I'm not good at naming futuristic things.

Accepted, I was hoping for some colonists. Exploration is a good idea, ironic that you picked the jungle.
Your bio brings up a good point: Colony ships are really slow. The better faster-than-light technology is either too expensive and accessible to the military, or to small to be realistically used in the largest civilian vessels. Freight and transport ships can generally keep up with the larger heavy cruisers, carriers, and dreadnoughts, but are outrun by light cruisers, destroyers, and other smaller vessels. The smallest ships capable of faster than light speed is the B-42L Typhoon H-FCB, or Heavy Free-fall Capable Bomber. This ship has this capability out of convenience and neccesity, as they are too large to carry in adequate number on most warships. (excluding Dreadnoughts, Heavy cruisers, and Carriers, which can still only carry enough for a small strike force)

Pants make me chafe

Actually land mine make perfetc sense if they don't interfear with the snipers pruimary role- they're sneaking around so much anyways, if they get behind enemy line, why not drop a few explosive surprises for him?

I have a (somewhat large) ranks systems in place I use for my story if you want it

COUNTER REBUTAL!!!!
A sniper is generally supposed to stay out of direct combat, and the need to lay traps would suggest a loss of cover or the discovery of their location. The resulting explosions of these mines would further reveal the sniper a bring enemy attention towards it.
And, most importantly- Don't use land minds on your own soil! Especially with the risk of colonist casualties.

Rank systems have never really occurred to me as requiring explanation, but feel free to share yours.
But remember, you are ranked no higher than a sergeant, (meaning lower than Staff Sergeant, which generally command 30+ marines)
We can't have you ordering platoons of marines around and giving yourself orders in a presumed non-combat mission, that would be silly:
"Marine: "Look, a guy with a gun!"
You: "HE MUST BE AN ENEMY! BLAM BLAM BLAM MOVE OUT AND KILL THEM ALL!"
Guy with gun: "I'M A HUNTER! AH!"
You: "Lets set up a super special position and send you five out to scout, then die!"

Thats right, I don't give you much NCP control. The most marines that you can have under your command (if any) is 12, but if you do, it would be best for you to command a fire-team (4-5 marines). You may, however, be told at some point to take so-and-so with you, in which case you command them.
I really would prefer not to see a bunch of Sergeants in this rp though, it gets complicated!
(RULES MAY CHANGE AS RP PROGRESSES)

Ironic or coincidental? Also, what is the name of the colonist ship?
