Hi.
I'm rather new on the forum, but really keen for some RP. Sadly nothing interesting is still open so I thought I'd open a new one.
What I have in mind is an RPG set in a world similar to ours with the technology and cutlture from the 1920ies- 40ies,
I'm thinking of a world where Zeppelins, Airships and Prop Airliners fill the sky, the Automobile is still impressive and new, and the wonders of electricity just started to appeal to the masses.
The Main difference would be that in this world, the nobles and ruling class are Canine Anthros, while the mass of workers and farmers are felines. The humans are part of the ruling class as well, and while there are no human aristocrats, there are many wealthy merchants, industrialists and advisors and bureacrats among them. Mostly this is because they are spared from the otherwise rather racist ideology of the canine class, who view the felines as having inferior intellect and not able to control their feral instincts.
The RPG would mostly take place in the city state of New Suzette, a metropolis near the South Coast of the New World. It is not only a major port on the continent, but the very important transcontinental railroad also has to pass through because of the impossible to pass high mountains in the north.
Thîs makes the city very important for National and International trade, and as such the streets are crowded with people of many different races and from all countries of the world making their living as workers of the many factories, dockers and longshormen, railroadworkers, or as poets, artists, actors, dancers and singers in the masses of cabarets and fancy night-clubs.
The city is set at the estuary moth of a large river, and on both sides surrounded by swamps and bayous, where many Felines still live as they have always lived,in small wooden cottages living from what the country provides, where old woman give their traditions of Hoodoo and Candomble on to their descendants.
I guess you noticed that the City is based on a heavily romanticised New Orleans. ^^
Another difference is that in this world magic truely exists, although most of the so-called civilised word did not believe it for a very long time. In this bold new times it is something that scientists try to measure and research applying terms like mesmerism, animal electricty and mixing the equally new and unknown results of their research of actual electricity and galvanism in.
But it is also used by the Feline Priestesses and Witch Doctors in a more shamanistic and natural fashion. They, and most other Felines are heavily opposed to the Scientific approach of magic, feeling that it should not be controlled and put in numbers lest to anger the old spirits.
In any case, the general populace is very skeptic of magic, especially because they just recently dropped their skepticism regarding technology.
I doubt that anyone aside from myself would be interested in such a concept... ^^
If you are though, it would make me really happy.
Please drop a bio of your character including appearance, race, abilities and backstory if you're interested.
If you would like to join if it wouldn't be for some minor (or major) part of the setting you find awkward, I'm very open to suggestions.
Same for questions of any kind.
feel free to ask ahead ^^
EDIT: I think I forgot to make a few things clear: With Canine I mean all kind of animals that would fall under the canine family, like wolves, foxes, dogs, coyotes etc while felines are obviously cats, cougars, tigers. I'm not sure wether other anthro-kinds like rabbits, mice or weasels should be included but if they are they'd be on the same social position as humans.
Also, the government IS a democracy, but all important positions are kept by canines. The Aristocracy is only wealthy and important, not actually in charge. All of the canines are settlers that came from the old continent, or descendants of immigrants. On the old continent, felines do not exist. Decause they did not have as advanced civilisations as the explorers did, they were looked down upon as savages from the very beginning.
