Raphael heard something pierce the building's surface and seemed somewhat puzzled as to what it was "What the f-"
Before he could finish, a large wave of energy slammed into his body and he flew backwards, crashing into the glass windows of the base and landing outside on his back, in the shadows of the destroyed base ((giving a slight hint as to how some of us get abilities not related to our mutation PF)). He was a bloody mess from the glass stabbing into his body, and blood was flowing from the wounds. if something didn't happen soon, he was going to die.
Several minutes passed and nothing had happened to even give Raphael the slightest amount of hope for survival. But suddenly, a static wave, the same color as the wave of energy that hit him, shot from the tip of his head down to his feet. The sparks touched the ground and the air around him and his body felt like it was sinking into the earth...No, it was sinking into the shadows surrounding him. "W-woah! Somebody help m..." His body vanished completely, the only trace of his body even being there was the pool of blood and the shards of class that impaled him.
Raphael slowly opened his eyes, afraid as to what he might find. he quickly checked his body to find that he was completely healed, "How the hell did I heal myself...woah..." Before him was the destroyed base, but at the same time, it wasn't. It seemed as though everything was pitch black, the shaded areas lighter than the ones in the light. "...Where am I?...My body flew from outside of the base, but this can't be the same place...Is this the place that my grandpa told me about in his stories?" He wandered around the area for a bit and found Alex's body lying on the ground about 50 feet from where he appeared in this alternate world. "Alex!"
He ran over to where Alex was on the 'ground' but when he got to him, he looked like a shadow: his body was pitch black and the shading on his body was like the rubble surrounding them. "I have to get outta this place and help him...but how the hell do I do that?"
Raphael thought for a while trying to figure out the situation, finally he remembered a story that his grandfather told him when he was still young. He closed his eyes and tried to remember every detail.
============Flashback============
Raphael is laying in his bed, looking to be around 5/6 years old. An old man was sitting next to his bed, telling him a bedtime story.
"You know Raph, my lad, there use to be a time, in the time of the arcane, where people had the ability to traverse the Shadow world. This place had no limits, you could go anywhere in the shadow world that you couldn't in the real world. But it was a dangerous place to be in, only the bravest and strongest of people were able to go in and out of this world and live to tell the tale."
Raphael looked at the old man with an amazed look on his face "How did they get to the Shadow world, Grandpa Cy."
"Heheh, Well if you want to know that badly, listen closely. The secret is willpower and the trick to getting to that world is to close your eyes and remove all thoughts from your head. Let nothing distract you and focus soley on the shadows surrounding you, then they will do your bidding, and you will have full control over them. Now to get there you must let it consume you, you will wake the moment you're there. Now getting back is the tough part, especially the first time. You have to clear your mind of the shadows and let the light guide you back to reality, that is said to be the only way out of the shadow world."
===========End flashback===========
Raphael opened his eyes again, and scanned the area around them "So this is the shadow world in grandpa Cyrus' tales huh? and here I thought they were only fairy-tales...You really were able to come here, weren't you grandpa?"
He closed his eyes once more and cleared his mind "Time to get out of this place and help Alex." In his mind he could see the light surrounding him, leading him out of the shadows and back to reality. He reemerged from the shadows just next to Alex and crouched down next to him, feeling slightly fatigued for a brief period. "You ok Alex?...Come on, we gotta get outta here."
He took hold of Alex's arm and wrapped it around his shoulders, helping Alex to his feet and supporting him as they slowly walked away from the building. "What the hell was that Alex? I couldn't see what happened."
((Got some help from Luca with the flashback bed-time story, I was having trouble with how to go about explaining the shadow world))
