The average Keidran lifespan is 20 years.

Keidran typically die of old age between the age of 19 and 21. Yes, there are a few rare individuals who manage to live until they're 25, but it's not very common. That would be very old, equivalent to a human aging beyond 100 years. And it's just as likely a Keidran could die at the age of 17. There are some exceptional Keidran who can keep themselves alive for longer by magical means, but that's extremely rare. Likewise, the average human lifespan in Twokinds is about 50, though it can fluctuate, of course.

Because of their short lifespans, Keidran typically measure their lifespans in half-seasons rather then years. So, the average Keidran live for about 40 half-seasons. Half-seasons are generally celebrated much like birthdays; a Keidran will celebrate their age every 6 months. Yearly birthdays are usually giving bigger importance, but half-birthdays are considered just as significant.

To a Keidran, Humans live unnaturally long, and waste too much time on insignificant things. It is similar to the way humans and elves view each other in other fantasies. Elves see Humans as too fast and too short lived. Such is the way Humans view Keidran.

If I may just simplify the two above comments:
Tom: Keidran live to about a third of humans lifespan.
InSaneTK: Hooray![/b]

Ok, so what Eric said was accurate (though I didn't doubt the self-proclaimed Keidran expert :P)...what Laura thought to herself threw me off...

I think it was stated as something like 65 a while back.

Which would put them actually above the average human lifespan, though no idea of their max age.

This was somewhat said in the comic, when Eauchre (as keidran) said that he's 21 years old and therefore he would probably die very soon (even tho I have my doubts there, since he's originaly a human).

That made me think also that since 20 is the normal keidran life-spawn, then that means Flora is already passed the middle age, making her actually be quite older than she looks like. (comment which has been turned down by other fellow forumers :P )

EDIT: Also, not to question Tom, (actually, I'm questioning him) but wouldn't it have been more wise that Flora were arround 7 years old? (more or less equivalent to 21 in human years)

That's as bad as "one year = seven dog years" It's not equivocable. A keidran matures and ages at their own rate. One might say "oh, this stage is similar to this age " but the time it took to get there, and the time it takes to the next, will not sync up to a human span with a simple calculation. This isn't fahrenheit to celsius, it's biology, fantasy biology at that.

what you say may be true, but still keidran probably have a sexual maturity proporcionaly before humans (pretty much like dogs, since you put the example, they mature sexualy speaking, at 6-12 months old)

To sum it up, I agree that keidran and human age can't be simple compared with a rule of 3, but still most of the keidran in the comic are past their middle age and I think it's kind of weird that they actually mature later if their life-spawn is shorter.

Assuming that keirdran leaders are probably older (for the most part) because "older people" are "wiser". I had to think, How exactly do keidran become "wise elders" when they live only 20 year?

Here's the question: if keirdran only live about 20 years, does that mean they're "elders" are as "wise" as 20 year old humans? ^_^;;

Here's a possible awnser:

Keidran have an advanced learning ability. They pick up and remember things twice or maybe even three times as fast than humans or bastians.

so yeah, that's what i got.

Humans avg life span in the US is around 80 (120 max)

at middle age level it would be 40-50

you know since in a city you have to wall around in [censored], while in a village you live with pigs to stay warm
(granted they have magic and it's high fantasy setting)

Keidran could live a long longer if they didn't have ticks and heat worms to deal with living in the deep woods

also they could verily on race, a real wolf in the wild is around 8 years but they have been know to have 50 types of parasites

tigers are 10 -15 in the wild

Basitans so far are pretty touch, their home island (which they seem to move form it since were they are doesn't requier Trace and co to have gas mask) they have public baths, and don't quite form infection as badly as a human or Keidran so I'll say Roman/Greek life span of 60-75

I did some thinking through on the lifespan/condition of living, and came with this:

Keidran
Story timeline: 20
Estimated modern equivalent: 30-40

Human
Story timeline: 40-50
Modern equivalent: 70-100

Bastian
Story timeline: 60-85 (estimated, roughly equal to modern human)
Estimate modern equivalent: 90-120 (perhaps even longer).

So accordingly: 1 Keidran year = 2 Human years = 3 Bastian years.
Flora: 22 human years
Kieth: almost 30 (shocking, but drafted at 12 and exiled at 18 makes sense)
Natani: 26 (middle aged)
Luara: 32 (considering the max lifespan, like a 60+ year old human)
Kathin: 20
Mike: 24
Evals: 26 (might explain his behavior)
Alaric: ~30, same as Kieth.

which is more or less spot on with their biological age shown in the comic.

Hang on... on their profiles, it says that Keith is 19.

Is that in Human years or Basitin years?

If it's Human years, then I think, following SpoiltCheese's numbers, would be: 19/2*3 putting him at 28.5 years in Basitin?

He and I are the same age ._. I don't feel so bad now xD I was about to say 'omg he's too old!'
