I just realized, that if Kieth declares Natani as his mate, that he wouldn't have to kill her, as stated by Trace in this comic: http://twokinds.comicgenesis.com/d/20080404.html
Huzzah! No more problem! Now, we just gotta hope that Kieth realizes it.

Yeah, then Keith doesn't have to kill Natani, but then Keith has to be killed along side her. It doesn't save Natani, it damns Keith.

First of all, it's Keith, not Kieth XD

And good thing you noticed that, I didn't thought of that :o THAT NATANI AS YOUR WIFE !!! WOOT !

Edit : @Sable : You ruined the mood, you know that...

Oh, I honestly think that he HAS come to think of that. Considering how strict the basitin are, Keith probably still knows all the laws even in his sleep.

But he couldn't do that, could he? He would most probably be killed, too. Or - as dumb as it sounds - Natani will disagree/refuse because of her male pride.

Ah, how amusing this could get...

Hasn't this been discussed, and shot down, before?

Not to be mean...

Hold on, I think I can think my way out of this...Wouldn't...wouldn't the whole equal status thing mean that, the partner of "lesser" status, as percieved by the Basitins, be elevated to the status of the "higher" status partner? Instead of Keith being lowered to Nat's status, would not Nat be raised to Keith's status, thus no longer being perceived as a threat and thus allowing Keith to refuse the order to harm her?

Does it matter? If we can't shoot it down again, it means there's still hope! :D

It only worked with Trace because the diplomatic immunity can be shared by his 'mate.' Keith, having no such immunity, has no real reason to declae Natani his mate. They're better off just fleeing.

Okay, that works.

Keith, however, HAS no status with the Basitin, right? He's banished, for at least another day, and will be cleared only if he kills Natani. Otherwise, he's just as guilty as she is, in their eyes.

Ah, but remember, the Basitin are pretty strict ehn it comes to the law. And, the way Trace quoted it, it's pretty clear. Declared mates are protected from orders to harm each other. Orders are orders, sure, but the law is the law :D

You know, IF basitin had no laws against multiple wives, and with a little help from Sable Dove's latest theory, Trace could.... ...I'll just go sit in the corner for a while.

Oh, and I almost forgot that Trace has unfortunately been kidnapped. Bummer.

Of course not! That would be absurd! We just did not reply, as your logic seems to be almost undeniable. No sarcasm :)
But it would not be the first time that laws are broken by the orders of higher authority, though when it's about the basitin......... I don't know.

Which would prevent the murder, but would prove to the generals that Keith could not be trusted. At this point they are lit on fire by someone who has no legal obligation not to do so.

It works out legaly, but remember the reason they are using Keith to do this is to presumably test his loyalty. He would be better off staging the murder.
