So I just got done traversing the internet, as one might expect a explorer might, and I came across a little review of Twokinds. I was intrigued naturally. However, on closer inspection I found that the review was... less than favorable.

It wasn't that the reviewer was necessarily wrong but rather that he attatched greater significance to the comics faults than I did. He was particuarly incenced about its "animu" nature, somthing I had barely even registered. Aditionally he had some grave problems with the writing and story, which I had trouble accepting them as the apparent unerasable sins that they were.

But that really isn't the point.

I was mildly disturbed. I have a history of tying myself to sinking (or sunk) franchises and fandoms. I was, in a insecure way, a little afraid that I might have once again misjudged the comic. After reading through it again my trepidation was asuaged, I felt the same as I always had. But I was uneasy, was this the popular impression of the comic? I resolved to find out.

Unfortunately, I didn't not actually find that many (Two, I believe), and though both were quite positive, I found it slightly unerving that there were so few. I am confident in my own opinions, but I have become increasingly curious of other critics opinions.

So... I guess in a round about way... Does anyone know of any critical review about Twokinds? I have become quite curious.

Hmmmmm... I don't know. I purposefully excluded it because I didn't think it would be befitting of the comic if anone took it a there personal quest to try and defend the comic. He's entitled to his own opinion. Also, I didn't nesecarily want to put anything exclusivly derogatory on the forum here.

But since you asked:

Take what you will.

I am spending an increasing amount of time squinting at the screen trying to understand how someone who is (apparently) a furry can't quite grasp furry characters (and apparently views the fandom with ill-concealed smoldering hatred). And considering how recent the review is, the man's mischaracterization of the characters distresses me. He draws parallels that I do not, but I suppose that's his prerogative. Mayhaps it's my open bias speaking, but I also don't find nearly so many weaknesses as he does. I'm trying to decide if I'm actually curious enough to look into his other reviews and see how they measure up.

*Reads that review, and most of the blog from the last year*
What an angry, angry person...
o.o

After reading all of that, it's easier to take the review with a grain of salt - if the rest of the blog had been shiny and happy, then it might have more weight...but if it's just a vent-blog, then it kinda takes the bite out of it, y'know?

...and I can understand your hesitation in posting the link - anyone not giving it full thought might be tempted to respond to it, but that would be foolish - flaming someone who already breathes fire never ends well...

I'm really more concerned that he's going to notice a massive bump in site-views and check the referrer log. :P I mean, after Kitten posted a link to his store, Northfur showed up.

Though, you know what, the worst thing he'd be able to do is post a mean blog post about us. Whoop-de-do.

:D

You know, I just figured it out! It's entirely facetious. The whole review is a joke. I mean, he approvingly quotes a guy saying, "I have never seen a single furry comic with this much sex in it," and later comments, "I’ve never seen a comic with plotline and writing and sexuality of this caliber with such wonderful art." This, of course, all occurs after linking to Jay Naylor's Better Days. :P

It's so simple! How could I have missed that? Truly, you are a gentleman and a scholar for such a deduction.

*sigh* If only I believed it.

I'm too close to the subject matter now to properly put TwoKinds to the fire. But it survived when I originally evaluated it; I mean, that's the reason I'm on the forum here. I think I'm just going to have to treat this like I treat video game reviews -- half the time, the reviewer doesn't really know what they're talking about, probably because they don't have time to really come to know the product.

I like Twokinds, but I do know it has its faults. Everything does, no matter how infalable it is supposed to be. I never really know if my opinion of somthing is completely objective. And I really, really wish I did. Which was sort of the reason I went looking for reviews.

But I think the main thing is that people expect different things going into a new endevor. Twokinds isn't for someone who wants a serious fantasy. It gets serious at times, but at its heart, it does not seem to be.

On another note, I checked that guys sporadic comic. It's pretty bad (in my opinion)

You just have to laugh about this guy. He's just some random dude who thinks he is a webcomics expert because he read trough the archives of the most popular ones. Big deal.
Of course, you have to respect that other people have different opinions and all that blah, but Spiff, don't let them shatter yours.

I have to go with GD on this one: whoop-de-[censored]-do. Congratulations, you can write a bitter, snarky, ill-informed review of something while enjoying complete anonymity. Boy, no one in the entire history of the whole [censored] internet has ever done that! Aren't you original.

Seriously, if he thinks reading a dozen webcomics suddenly gives him untold insights into the art of webcomics, then he's even stupider than he tries to pretend he's not. He's like a bad SomethingAwful reject; given the boot for being too retarded even for that cesspool of retardation.

Agreed with GD & Kinuki. This guy's a connoisseur of the internet... and that says absolutely nothing. I could just as easily fork over forty bucks for a cheap website, write reviews on Penny Arcade, CAD, 2kinds, and VGCats, and pretend I'm something fresh and new. The guy is a glorified blogger.

The way I see it, he's not going to have the balls to stick this on a job application, so he boils down to one more internet troll with a big mouth. *shrug*

i read that review i think it the review sucks

I readf it again and i have to say that, the review writer is an [censored] SUCKING SON OF A [censored] GOD [censored] [censored] S WHO NEEDS TO GO GET A BETTER AT GIVING REVIEWS! God had compared the comic to Mr.Hands! If you you don't know what it is be happy you don't.
