I wonder what exactly those towers are going to do....

We do know that

1.) they were designed by the templar to "take care" of the keidran
2.) they can also effect bastian (intention unknown)
3.) Exposure to the tower may cause brain stupidness
4.) the final tower to be completed is on the basidian island

You can all kiss the trip to the orchard valley goodbye if the tower isn't destroyed or something...You can all kiss goodbye the Natani x Keith x Laura Love triangle too.

But on the bright side, Natani may be on her way to discovering the tower...

ehh I don't think anyone will just happen upon the tower

if you look back at the comic they said the tower was actually being constructed IN the castle, strange I know but people don't just walk into castles so its safe from the general populace.

true. i don't think keith would even be allowed in if he wasn't being escorted by a general.
...then again, Natani is an assassin. if she can't sneak by, i don't know who could.

(maybe Kat could convince them to let her through with her stunning good looks  of course, if that doesn't work, there is always...Kathrin, the Archmage!!) :D

Well, yeah, nobody knows about it. Alaric was keeping it a secret from his whole country till it's done.

But the Tower is too important to pass up....something is going to happen...

Here's how I see them (or at least how they would be if i wrote the comic)

they were made LONG befor humans came and were just there (they don't look what they do now of course) keidran didn't make them, but know that they can make maigc stones and what not, but never care how or why.

Human came being well humans poke around them and found out how to make them and modifty to do other stuff.

They work by collecting the life force (note not souls) of things that die or life force has 'spilled" (ei get cut or set on a bug and the local tower glows a bit more) and compact them into a spilling core, the can slowly charge the tilt, speed, axis, ect which does different things

Templar use them to boost they magic, and tame keidran. Most thing its some sort of brain washing but what they really do is boost a keidran's super-ego (which Keidrans don't seem to have much of) thus fitting in with human cultural regulations. (as well as giving them a little word in there ear saying "hey listen to that human")

bastian being rare in the main land have most tower are adjected for there brain wave as a result it somewhat messes with there minds but only as much as giving them studder. most due to them being close to a keidran (thus affecting them) but have a different brian workings

if you hit a core with a magic bolt at the reverse way it normaly spins with will explode, not the little tower smoke up and falls, I mean likeing a faking nuke

And considering that Trace has taken out two(?) towers already, how crucial can it be now?

Doesn't that weaken the effect?

Don't know....how they work and what they're capable is still a mystery.

Not entirely. We have some information about what they do and how they work, but you're right, what they're truly capable of is unknown. We don't know what the Final Tower is going to do, whether it's simply the result of research (it is the "final tower" because it is the last one which will or needs to be built) or if it's numeric (it's the "final tower" because they reach some threshold of X number of towers when it's finished).

How do you hide a huge tower like that? Note the term TOWER

http://twokinds.comicgenesis.com/d/20041208.html

It 'towers' over everything, not to mention glows...

well I am pretty sure castles have towers too... that happen to ahve walls that go between them so even if you COULD see it chances are you might just think its part of the castle... maybe... I dunno.

as for the PURPOSE avwolf got me thinking, maybe there isn't some super-laser deathbeam of death that comes when completeing so many towers. Perhaps its like Rome where they just were saying "all right we have all the forts for our legions in place now lets conquer stuff"

perhpas movement between towers is instantaneous so they can move an army onto the island at the heart of the basitin government? just a thought

Wow, you know, the link clears up a lot....like...a lot....but then why is it the "final" tower. the last one they're deiciding to make? that could make sense......

But now Bastian can do magic too, which totally blows my mind....

wait a second...it says at the end it makes the templars go crazy...it could make Trace be all evil-Tracy again.

There's some sort of fast travel going on. I can't tell if it's related to the towers or if the Templar are simply teleporting (as Natani did with Zen). But news seems to travel really easily among the Templar, and the Master Spy is particularly mobile. Considering how expensive Natani considered teleporting (it was something that required a full mana stone to power anyway), I wonder if the Templar have found an easier/cheaper way, or if the mana storage of the towers simply makes them less complicated to use.

Euchre's implied that the towers are able to manipulate the Keidran in some way (which Dante noted), but we don't yet know how. That's obviously going to be a major reveal; perhaps something that Master Architect Randal will let slip.

The towers already have. When Trace tapped out the tower that he ended up overloading and forcing to explode, he regressed into evil Trace and ended up getting a really nasty gash from Flora when he went to attack her. After the tower blew, Trace came to his senses (only to get sapped by Euchre).

--UPDATE--
Added the links to appropriate comics and changed the last sentence so that it awkwardly follows the comic's chronology (that way the links make more sense).

So it's pretty much definent that Evil Trace will come back sometime on the islands, around the activation of the new tower perhaps?
