New comic 9-4-07!
Magic! I'm surprised.
Edit, actually the image is dated the 5th, but it is only 7:30 here.
I can't wait to find out what is happening with the tower. My guess seems off in appearance anyway. Maybe is will corrupt them with dark mana.

So, Jesus joined the Templars?

Hm, coursing magic through non-magical beings tends to have... unfortunate side effects. Bets until we start seeing Baistlins blowing up from Magical Overloads and it being passed off as "Acceptable loses"?

Er, actually, that'd be Bob. Y'see, while he mastered the art of SUMMONING Flames, he had a bit of trouble extinguishing them once they reached his fur.

GYERK!!! This is not good! Not good at all.

There has to be a reason why every other race has magic and Bastians don't. They're screwing with nature, and when you push nature, it will push back. I think the bastian race has just assured their extinction.

Holy cow. This cannot possibly end well....

Now, considering the spontaneity of the magic, either Alaric is capable of learning magic Templar-style, or the bandied-about conception of internalized magic (that was yours, wasn't it, kryss?) is true, and Alaric, with the Randal's help, is able to externalize it. I guess that's something we'll have to wait to really find out. I'm somewhat surprised the other Generals permitted this sort of thing to happen. Alaric I can believe; he seems very interested in challenging the way things are done (his teasing of Keith and Keith's reactions ("It's improper!"), show this). But General Alabaster is hardly the sort of person to let this go on. But it's too big to be done without his knowledge. There's another level to this that I'm not seeing. Alaric can't be that persuasive.

Interesting how Alaric's gloves are designed. Though it makes it look like the Basitin have retractable claws.

And finally, if Keith's ears droop any lower, they're going to fall off his head.

--Update--
And more finally, I think my favorite line is this, "Nothing we are doing here is in any way sinister in nature." I can't decide if it reminds me more of the Space Robots ("We are here to protect you") or Mars Attacks ("Do not run, we are your friends!")

holy [censored]!! the basitins have magic now!
so now we know how the templar are able to build the last tower there. it wasn't just persuading the basitin that it was a good idea. it was the promise of MAGIC!!

there's another one of those black cloaked figures in the background...
i guess we know what that cloaked guy was in the third panel of this comic

Edit: nice upward shot of alaric. tom has gotten very good with his drawings. 8)

*sighhhh* Here we go again. I've seen this hundreds of times before, it's so predictable.

1) Nation A starts off perfectly capable of handling its problems, people and so forth without the aid of magic/technology because they have never had access to it.
2) Evil Organization B gives the access to magic/technology, promising that it will make their people prosper and flourish.
3) Nation A becomes dependant on magic/technology to accomplish what they could do perfectly well without over time. This causes Nation A to become dependent on Evil Organization B, because the access to magic/technology that Nation A possesses comes solely through Evil Organization B.
4) Nation A begins to not like how Evil Organization B has been treating them or the demands being placed upon them, or simply old hatreds flare up again causing them to lash out.
5) As punishment for opposing them, Evil Organization B cuts off all access to magic/technology from Nation A.
6) Nation A functions fine for a time, but then magics begin to fade, or technology rusts and fails in time, and Nation A no longer has access to the ways to restore the magic/technology because Evil Organization B has severed their access to it.
7) Nation A becomes unable to function effectively due to their losing the magic/technology they had come to rely upon, thus leaving them easy pickings for Evil Organization B.

Any questions?

Dark mana shouldn't be an issue since only Templar can take mana from nature itself, and only over drawing the amount of mana available leads to dark mana... Keidran and Basitin are/were only able to draw mana from crystals...and Basitin didn't have any ability at that either so now the get the mana from the tower... which I doubt is dark mana.

THAT, my friends, is called the crutch mentality. The very same reason why Great Britain struggles with unemployment and the NHS.

Yay for political cliches. *coughff7referencecough*

That 'crutch mentality' would take to long to be an issue in the comic, so there has to be a more immediate concern or it might actually be a good tower...

Maybe mindcontrol turning all of them into zombies...
