It's possible someone else has aready thought of this, but I've not seen any such pondering on the forums, so I'll just say it.

I think Basitin are decended from Keidran/Human hybrids.

Exhibit A: Two Kinds, not Three Kinds. Why? Because Basitin are not a kind of their own, but a hybrid of human and Keidran.

The entity 'in charge of' the Keidran (Neutral, Ephemural, I'm not to sure which is which) says it has not allowed a certain race for many years. Most of the forums seems to be in agreement that this other race is a human/Keidran hybrid. This meas that there have been hybrids in the past, so where are their descendants? Basitin.

Exhibit C: Ears. Basitin ears have characteristics of both Keidran and human. They look mostly like Keidran ears, but they have humanlike ear-cartilage, and are lowset on the sides or the head like a human's, not highset like a Keidran's.

I'm sure there's more evidence, but I can't think of it at the moment.

There are three races- the name Twokinds refers to the 2 in conflict more so than the other. IF you want proof that they are not a hybrid race i refer you to the comic of 2 of the 3 masks talking where Neutral says allowing the other race- which is the hybrid race. Thus there are no hybrids currently - but there are Basitins. Think about it for a second ... ... ... good- now get in the soup.

Everything I wrote before July of 2006 about Basitins is probably false. So most of what I wrote in that post is also false. I hadn't fully defined what Basitins are until last year, when I finished writing about them.

Only trust what is in the comic. That's the only information that is trustworthy.

Hmm, what is with some other informations? Keidran, Masks (Ephermural controls the Keidran), ....

I'm not going to swing this off topic too much. But conspiracy theories make great for random hilarity with little to no coherency.

And my psychologist is on holiday, so that can wait.

I thought the name Twokinds refers to Trace and Flora and how they can be together despite all this war,strife,backstabbing,genderbending madness.

Notice how you just repeated what I said with a personal name for member of each race and added genderbending and overcoming differences.

rather than assuming things that probably aren't true, think about the information your already given before making theories. from the time i heard that the kiedran and humans were at war i assumed that was the entire purpose behind the name "Twokinds" meant the war between keidran and humans, even when we met keith and found out he was basitin and not keidran

I think you're right. After all, there are at least two other intelligent species in the "twokinds" world: dragons and Masks. OK, the Masks are only partly in the world, but they are actors in the story. Depending on whether the basitin are a different species from the keidran, we have either four or five intelligent species. So "two kinds" obviously means something different from that. The sensible interpretation is that it refers both to the human/keidran war and the growing Trace/Flora connection. Their social positions in their societies make their love a major political development. It's Romeo and Juliet in a furry fantasy setting. And we hope that Tom's story has a happier ending than that old one by Bill Shakespeare. ;-)

From a biological viewpoint, the obvious guess is that the basitin originated as a subspecies of keidran, and the isolation of their island habitat is on the verge of turning them into a separate species. There are many examples like this in our world. Tom remarked in one forum article that basitin and keidran can mate, but this may not matter much. If they've developed behavioral patterns that mostly prevent interbreeding, biologists would classify them as separate species (in the same genus).

But the biological details aren't very important to the story. It just makes for fun, meaningless forum discussion.

Has anyone done any fanart for potentials of what a human/keidran might look like? I can't quite form a picture in my admitedly small brain.

the masks aren't a race their demi-god like figures. i also don't think dragons are considered a race.
